Q: Should I move or should I remodel?
A: Feeling like your family has outgrown your current home may lead you to consider moving. However, what many homeowners overlook is that remodeling often proves to be a more cost-effective alternative to relocating. Moreover, remodeling allows you the opportunity to design your dream home, making it an incredibly customizable and intimate way to enhance your home.
When deciding between remodeling or moving, it’s crucial to carefully weigh all the factors involved. Remodeling can be a great option for those who want to stay in their current location and customize their home to their liking. On the other hand, moving might be the better choice for those who seek a fresh start or are looking for a specific type of property that better suits their needs. Ultimately, the decision comes down to personal preferences, financial considerations, and lifestyle goals.
Q: What things can I change about my home?
A: Virtually anything. From whole house renovations to one room at a time or space at a time. Dormers and additions. A fresh coat of paint, mouldings, and new doors can also completely change the way your home feels and looks. Bath and kitchen remodels are two of the most common projects our customers take on. Whatever your project, CDI can help bring your dreams to fruition!
Q: What’s it like to live through a remodeling project?
A: Well, it’s certainly not glamorous like you see on some TV shows! But, through the years, Constructive Design has developed many strategies to make our remodeling customers’ lives as easy as possible. How ambitious your project is will be the deciding factor on whether you can remain in your home during the process, or not. In most cases, you will be able to go about your everyday life at home while the remodel is taking place. In any event, we will prepare you for what to expect so there are little to no surprises.
During the remodel, we take care of your home and protect it. We are going to be “married” for the duration of the project, so good communication is paramount. Daily progress updates on the project are the rule, not the exception. Floor protection and dust mitigation is important to us, and we also clean the job site daily. Any flooring that is to remain, but we need to walk back and forth on, will be well protected. We install plastic walls with zippered doors to allow us access wherever necessary. Anything that is added, removed, or changed during the project is done via Change Orders that we mutually agree upon and sign so there are absolutely no surprises at job’s end!
Spreadsheets will be provided to you that show exactly how much money you’ve given us, any Change Orders put forth, and how much is left to be paid. Although we appreciate your trust in us, it’s important that we provide you with these details for your records whether, or not, you choose to do your own accounting throughout the project.
We strive to deliver the best results and experience to you, making remodeling as painless a process to live through as possible.
Q: What happens if you find unforeseen issues, or we want to make changes that add to the cost of the job?
A: It’s rare that any project winds up costing exactly what the total is in the estimate (the precise reason it’s called an estimate). Sometimes the project costs more, sometimes it costs less. It all depends on your choices in the Allowances section of the estimate, e.g., you pick out tile that is less money than we allotted for you. Most of the time, we, or our customers, will have additional ideas during construction that may affect the price. While we’re on a job, it’s not uncommon for us get requests from the customer to do additional work. A lot of the times, it’s unforeseeable expenses that increase costs, what we refer to as behind the wall issues. The best way to prepare for these issues is by budgeting for an additional 5%-15% (contingency).
Q: Can we choose the materials or fixtures we want?
A: ABSOLUTELY! A lot of contractors buy bulk items at a discount, which lowers their cost which not only saves them money, but they can pass the savings on to you if they choose. Although this could provide a financial benefit, this results in a “cookie cutter” job. In our experience, most people don’t like being restricted from choosing from a much smaller selection of items. With CDI, each job is customized to you and based off Your budget, your tastes, visions and choices putting the power in your hands. This is your home, your project, and your money, we feel you get to decide exactly what you want!
Q: What if I don’t know exactly what I want or am not good at designing and choosing items?
A: No problem at all. Many people, although talented in other aspects of life, may not be able to easily envision the end result or design for their projects. That’s where Constructive Design comes in. We, along with our designers, will be happy to guide you through the process as part of our service.
Q: Do you provide financing?
A: Yes. We searched for a long time looking for a reputable company to partner with and it took us many years to find someone that met our standards and not hiding additional expenses in the cost. I cannot tell you how unscrupulous most home improvement financing companies are, charging fees to us both, then having an option for us to have them incorporate those fees into your monthly payment without you knowing! That’s why, for so many years, we refused to provide consumer financing; we just couldn’t get onboard with these greedy, deceitful companies! Eventually we found a financing platform we trust called Enhancify. It’s a marketplace that makes it easy to research many home improvement financing options.
Q: Why should I choose financing?
