Let’s not pull any punches!

Obviously we are in business to make money, that’s no secret, we are all entitled to earn a living, but there is a right way of doing business and a wrong way of doing business in our eyes. Many contractors seem to have lost sight of this. To many of them, you are just a paycheck and another job As soon as they can get done with you, they are off to the next job. That’s not at all how we operate our company. As we touched upon in our Home Page, we employ an old world approach to doing business. We forge relationships with our customers, you are not just a “number” to us. This makes working with each other as pleasing and painless as possible, just as companies used to do years ago.

Here’s an interesting note; Virtually every job we take on, a customer has to provide us a key to their home while we work on their job so we have access in and out of their homes,( which is a common practice in home improvements), and upon completion of the job, the key is returned to the homeowner. When we complete a project and proceed to return the customer’s key to them, we are often told to hold onto the key for future projects or in case they need us to run over to their house to tend to something unexpected while they’re not home! That being said, we have become the custodian of many keys!!! To us, that speaks volumes of the trust we earn from our customers!

About Dan Rummo, Owner

Early Beginnings: Learning the Trade

In 1975, at just 10 years old, Dan began his journey in home improvement, helping his father renovate their first home. As the eldest of two boys, he had little choice but to assist with demolition, sheetrocking, painting, electrical work, and building a deck. His father, a perfectionist, ingrained the motto: “If you’re going to do something, do it right the first time, or don’t do it at all!” This work ethic would shape Dan’s future.

Cultivating Skills and Gaining Experience

At 19, Dan joined a family friend’s chimney company, quickly advancing from helper to bricklayer. Over the next few years, he expanded his expertise in roofing, siding, and flashing by working for various companies. In 1989, he joined Long Island’s oldest chimney company. His dedication earned him a leadership role within months, managing crews and operations. By December of that year, at just 24, Dan purchased the company and spent 11 years restoring it to its former glory, joining industry associations and publishing articles along the way.

A Move to Full-Time Home Improvement

Customer trust and demand for Dan’s meticulous work led him to pivot in 2000. He sold the chimney division and founded Constructive Design, focusing on home improvement and remodeling. By 2005, the company was incorporated as Constructive Design Inc. (CDI). Dan’s adherence to his father’s principles of integrity and craftsmanship earned CDI a stellar reputation and numerous accolades.
